Second Harvest Food Bank will be hitting the open road Thursday to deliver food and hope to neighbors affected by the devastating wind storms in Ferry County.
In July, fierce winds whipped through Republic in Ferry County, knocking down 250 power poles and damaging nearly a hundred homes.
The storm knocked out power to homes for days, making it difficult to keep food fresh.
"We're responding to a crisis, tremendous food shortage," said Melissa Cloninger with Second Harvest.
And that's why Second Harvest spent Wednesday evening loading 10,000 pounds of fresh food onto its Mobile Food Pantry truck.
"We're taking apples, pears, potatoes, green beans," she said
Neighbors will also be getting roasts, bottled water and bread.
"10,000 pounds of food will provide about 6,600 meals," said Cloninger. "We believe the gift of food is the gift of hope, because it enables people to survive and to thrive."
Second Harvest will be handing out food at the People's Pantry in Republic between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
The People's Pantry is located at 925 S. Keller in Republic, WA.
