In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Shear Attitude Salon and Spa is giving away facials, manicures and other spa services to women battling breast cancer.
For five years Shear Attitude has been treating women with breast cancer to free pampering services; it's something owner Tammy Reams is happy to do because she knows what it's like to be one of those women. Cancer runs in her family.
"Five years ago in September I lost my dad and he also had breast cancer as well," she said.
Reams knows what it's like to have her breasts removed, to feel not so great or even beautiful. So at her salon she treats other women going through breast cancer treatment the way she wanted to be treated.
"They have no one and you're like 'I'll be your someone' you know let me hold your hand and …" Reams' voice trailed off as she started to cry.
It's her fifth year of "Pamper Yourself Pink." Last year she treated 37 women to their choice of a facial, a mani/pedi or a hair treatment. Her three-day event ran two weeks.
"I refuse to turn people away … I, I can't, I can't tell them no," she said.
She's hoping other local salons pick up on "Pamper Yourself Pink" to create a special day for these women.
"It does weigh heavy, but for us you know the just being able to give back to them it's wonderful and knowing there is hope," Reams said.
You'll want to call or visit the salon very soon to sign up for these "Pamper Yourself Pink" free services because they fill up quick. You have Thursday from Saturday to do it. For more information check out their website.
