A standoff that started as a domestic dispute in northeast Spokane ended Monday morning with police taking one man into custody.
Just after midnight, a woman on the 4300 block of East Fairview called 9-1-1 for a domestic dispute. She said her husband was angry, possibly intoxicated, and had fired a rifle in the direction of people inside the house.
When police arrived on scene, they secured the release of the woman and her 19-year-old son. They were both uninjured. The man still refused to come out.
Police tried several negotiation tactics. They tried talking him out, smoking him out, and eventually sent in a robot with a cell-phone in an attempt to communicate.
At around 6 a.m., SWAT officers fired pepper-smoke grenades into the house to try and force the man out. They fired a second round of pepper-smoke grenades into the house a half-hour later.
At just after 7:30 a.m. the standoff ended with officers taking the man into custody.
