Light winds and overnight efforts by firefighters held a wildfire burning on the Colville Indian Reservation to about 5,000 acres, or nearly 8 square miles.
Fire spokesman Mark Grassel said that several hundred additional firefighters are expected to arrive Thursday. He says the fire is currently at zero containment.
The fire previously burned two homes and has led to the closure for the week of an Indian boarding school on the reservation.
Grassel said there is no rain in the forecast so the fire, which is burning mostly in grass and sagebrush, could burn for some time.
