A necklace, which may be a key piece of evidence in the murder of Kim Schmidt, has been located.
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office reported Wednesday afternoon it had been located. They did not release any additional information as to how and where it was found.
Just a day before the sheriff's office reported it was looking for that necklace, which may be evidence in the murder case against Dan Arteaga, who faces a first degree murder charge for Schmidt's death.
"This necklace is actually a very important piece of this investigation. This was something very special to Miss Schmidt. She never took it off," Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy Craig Chamberlin said Tuesday.
While executing a search warrant at Arteaga's home detectives didn't find the necklace, and they wondered if he took it as a trophy after allegedly shooting Schmidt.
"It's very common with folks that commit these types of crimes to basically take some type of trophy from their victim. We're not certain that is what the situation is here but like I said this is an extremely valuable piece of evidence," said Chamberlin.
