Man shot, wounded by deputy near Moses Lake
A man was shot and wounded by a Grant County Sheriff's deputy early Tuesday morning near Moses Lake.
The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday on the 9300 block of Viewcrest Drive SE in the Pelican Point neighborhood, a rural area about four miles south of Moses Lake.
Deputies were responding to a domestic violence call at that residence when the shooting occurred. Neighbors say a couple and four young children live at the residence.
"Nothing ever seems much to happen here. This is kind of the calm part of town," neighbor Trish Tracy said.
The shooting shocked neighbors of the normally tranquil, rural neighborhood.
"There were 15 cops' cars flashing and it was pretty scary because we didn't know what was going on," neighbor Michele Haddican said.
"Totally unexpected for this neighborhood," Tracy added.
So far only very limited information has been released about the shooting; the Grant County Sheriff's Office has asked the Columbia Basin Investigative Team to lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Both the Grant County Sheriff's Office and the Moses Lake Police Department will assist in the investigation
"It's very early on in the investigation and in order to allow the multi-agency team to do their investigation properly that information will be held until they get accurate information," Ken Jones with the Grant County Sheriff's Office said.
The sheriff's office said Tuesday afternoon it would release more details about the shooting, including the names of the deputy and the individual involved, by Thursday morning..
