OKANOGAN, Wash. -

Okanogan County deputies say a man killed his father Thursday night and, when deputies responded to the home, the son opened fire on them, forcing them to return fire.

The shooting happened in a house at 56 East Dry Coulee Road just before 8:30 p.m. Deputies were called out to investigate a possible assault. When they arrived, two women ran out of the house, saying a man was shot by his son.

The Okanogan County Special Response Team was called out to try and speak with the two men inside the house. Deputies said when they decided to go inside the house, the son fired shots at them. They returned fire and shot him.

The man, who has not been identified, was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital. His condition is not known, according to Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers.

Deputies said the father was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.

The names of the suspect, victim and deputy involved have not been released.
