Spokane Major Crimes detectives are investigating a serious assault that happened near High Bridge Park on July 4.

According to the Spokane Police Department, just after 8 a.m., officers responded to a local hospital to speak with an assault victim. The victim was severely beaten and burned near Sunset Blvd. and Government Way during the night.

Detectives contacted the Food Mart that's near the scene and took surveillance video. The footage shows the suspect, wearing a white shirt and tan baseball hat, and the victim inside the store before the attack.
