YOU'VE HEARD OF FARM TO TABLE.
BUT WHAT ABOUT FARM TO TEA CUP?
WINTERWOODS TEA COMPANY FOCUSES ON SOURCING THE ORGANIC
INGREDIENTS FOR ITS TEA BLENDS AS CLOSE TO THE AREA
MADE IN THE NORTHWEST.
BEFORE STARTING WINTERWOODS TEA COMPANY OUT OF HER
HOME IN COLBERT.
TIRZA WIBEL USED TO OWN A PUBLIC RELATIONS AGENCY.
i worked with artists and creative clients.
and i always wanted to be my clients, you know? they
were doing the coolest things.
SO WHILE BREWING UP IDEAS FOR A NEW LINE OF BUSINESS
SHE COULD ALSO INVOLVE HER KIDS IN.
SHE SETTLED ON TEA.
i have a passion for herbs and natural health and
i've been mixing my own teas with ingredients that
i grow in my garden for years.
and so it just kind of came together.
WIBEL STARTED WINTERWOODS IN 2014.
AND IT REMAINS UNIQUE TO THE AREA.
i'm the only tea company in the inland northwest that
makes our own blends with certified organic ingredients
with a focus on what's available in the northwest.
FARM TO TEA CUP
we work with a lot of local foragers who will pick
huckleberries for us and things like that.
peaches from green bluff here in spokane.
we get cranberries from here in washington.
WINTERWOODS DOESN'T ADD ANYTHING ARTIFICIAL TO ITS
WIBEL AND HER SMALL STAFF MIX THE INGREDIENTS BASED
THE ORIGINAL RECIPES SHE CREATED.
THE TEA IS IMMEDIATELY WEIGHED OUT.
AND PLACED INTO BAGS.
each bag holds about 25 to 30 cups of tea.
THE BAGS ARE SEALED TO LOCK IN THE TEA'S FRESHNESS.
once they're sealed, they're good for twelve to 24
months in their package.
THE BAGS ARE THEN SHIPPED OUT TO STORES AND CUSTOMERS
so that we can guarantee that everybody gets their
tea within 30 days of packaging.
most of my customers are young men, so i had them
in mind when i was creating these blends.
they're more rustic.
A KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN RAISED 35-THOUSAND DOLLARS.
WHICH HELPED THE COMPANY BUILD ITS COMMERCIAL KITCHEN.
AND QUADRUPLE ITS NUMBER OF WHOLESALE ACCOUNTS ACROSS
IT'S TURNING TO KICKSTARTER AGAIN.
it will allow us to bring in some more revenue to
meet that wholesale demand.
so catalogs, some of the wholesale trade shows that
we'll need to get to, just producing a, hiring staff.
AND WHILE WIBEL SEES WINTERWOODS FOCUSING MORE ON
WHOLESALE IN THE FUTURE.
SHE'S STEEPED IN THE IDEA OF REMAINING A SMALL BUSINESS.
we stick with our niche, which is northwest blends,
and keeping that small and keeping it intimate and
AND THAT'S WHAT FARM TO TEA CUP IS ALL ABOUT.
FOR MADE IN THE NORTHWEST.
I'M DEREK DEIS.
