RECLAIMED WOOD IS EXTREMELY POPULAR IN NEW CONSTRUCTION
AND A NORTH IDAHO COMPANY IS MODERNIZING THE INDUSTRY
WITH A PATENTED PROCESS THAT BRINGS NATURE INDOORS.
MADE IN THE NORTHWEST
EVERYONE SEEMS TO WANT THE LOOK OF RECLAIMED WOOD
IT'S A FASHIONED STATEMENT FOR THEIR HOME.
they're really using it in a contemporary setting,
whether it's a restaurant, a high end home or even
in commercial buildings.
it kind of goes with everything.
BUT AS A LONGTIME BUILDER.
CHRIS BARTIMIOLI GREW FRUSTRATED WITH THE INTEGRITY
OF DECADES OLD WOOD.
I figured there's got to be a better way to achieve
SO COEUR D'ALENE WOOD'S THREE PARTNERS CREATED A WAY
TO TAKE WEATHER INDOORS.
trying to take what mother nature does naturally and
speed that process up indoors and still create a reclaimed,
authentic, antique piece of wood without all the structural
issues that you have in sizing and dimensional issues
that you have with actual reclaimed wood.
AND THAT PROCESS IS COMPLETELY FREE OF VOLATILE ORGANIC
LIKE PAINTS AND STAINS.
there's no harmful chemicals that go in or would be
off-gassing after the wood is installed.
COEUR D'ALENE WOOD USES MOSTLY ALASKAN YELLOW CEDAR.
THE MOST ROT RESISTANT CEDAR IN NORTH AMERICA.
IN THE FIRST STEP OF PRE-TREATMENT.
IT INTRODUCES THE WOOD TO THE KINDS OF NUTRIENTS IT
WOULD BE EXPOSED TO OVER LONG PERIODS OF TIME IN NATURE.
what we've done is make a concentrate out of it and
we flood the wood with it.
THAT WOOD IS THEN SET ASIDE TO DRY.
BEFORE THE SECOND STEP OF PRE-TREAMENT.
WHICH SIMULATES POUNDING THE WOOD WITH RAIN, DIRT
through the processes of getting wet and dry, it starts
beginning to stabilize the wood.
you start getting the grain raise, you start getting
the wood absorbing and dehydrating and reaching out
IT PASSES THROUGH THIS 50-FOOT HIGH ENERGY REACTOR.
that gives it about 30 years of sunlight exposure
through our issued patent.
it kicks the crap out of the wood, really.
and that's what we're doing.
i mean, we're coloring wood like nature does naturally,
giving it the natural colors that are within the wood
COEUR D'ALENE WOOD IS PRODUCING 20-THOUSAND FEET OF
WOOD EVERY EIGHT HOURS INSIDE ITS 22-THOUSAND SQUARE
AND IT'S HOPING TO ADD ANOTHER 20-THOUSAND SQUARE
FEET VERY SOON.
we're in the process of adding a couple more lines
here in the next couple of months to be able to double
i'd like to see us outgrow this building within the
year, so that i don't think is very far fetched.
AND IT HOPES TO KEEP MODERNIZING THE RECLAIMED WOOD
MAKING ITS PRODUCTS GO NATIONAL.
AND EVEN INTERNATIONAL.
i'd like to see it in every distribution facility
in the united states.
that would be my goal.
FOR MADE IN THE NORTHWEST.
