Two men arrested for the murder of Marcus Schur made their first appearance in Whitman County court Monday afternoon.
Brothers Frank Lazcano, 24, and Daniel Lazcano, 20, were arrested for 2nd Degree Murder in the killing of 23-year-old Marcus Schur. Investigators say the two shot Schur multiple times before dumping his body in Bonnie Lake.
Deputies say the shooting happened the night of December 27 in what may have been the result of a burglary gone bad.
Grace Schur, Marcus' mother, says the Lazcano brothers' arrest is a glimmer of comfort in what has been a horrific week.
"This hasn’t hit me. It’s been going on for three months, and now I have some closure and all I want to do is make the best for my son," Schur said.
Schur says her soon used to work at M and M Construction and graduated from Rosalia High School. As for the suspects, Schur says her son went to school with the brothers, but was unsure what their relationship was.
Friends of the family say they thought Marcus Schur ran away in December because he may have been in trouble with the law.
Schur has set up a memorial fund in her son's name at the Bank of Fairfield to help cover the costs for his burial, She says the community been very supportive since the news broke about Marcus' death.
"I'm grateful to those who’ve helped in this manner, and everyone who’s helped me to get past all of this," she said.
The Lazcano brothers remain in custody at the Whitman County Jail. The one main question remaining is why they may have killed Schur. Deputies believe they know but won’t say yet.
