Hutton Settlement selling Christmas trees
SPOKANE, Wash. -

With just about three weeks left until Christmas, you may still need to get your tree.  There are many lots around Spokane, but one farm will help a special cause.

At the Hutton Settlement Christmas Tree Fundraiser, the 35 kids who live at settlement help work at the farm each holiday season.

"I like talking to the customers, telling them what kind of trees that we have," 12-year-old Kyle said.

Kyle lives at the Hutton Settlement, a place where kids like him can stay as a long term alternative to foster care.

The money raised from the fundraiser helps to pay for programming. "All of the money that is raised goes back to support our kids and give them a quality of life, a good childhood, take them to places they have never been before," Monique Cotton, Director of Community Relations and Communications at Hutton, said.

It's their biggest fundraiser of the year. For all the kids who live there, it gives them an opportunity to gain important life skills.

"It is an educational experience for our kids, they are manning the cash register, they are collecting money, they are greeting customers," Cotton said.

11-year-old Mikey has been selling trees for 6 years! "I like serving the community and it's just a good experience," he said.

You can buy a pre-cut tree or even cut one yourselves. If you venture out to the tree farm, know you'll get top notch customer service from kids who want to make your Christmas a little brighter.

"I like seeing people's smiles on their faces when they walk out and they have a tree in their hands," Mikey said.

The farm is open Tuesdays - Fridays from noon to 7 p.m. and on Saturday and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It closes on Saturday, December 15th.
