SPOKANE, Wash. -

Before Hoopfest players step foot on a court this weekend, they have to check in their teams.

On Thursday, hundreds of teams started checking in, marking the official beginning of the largest three-on-three basketball tournament in the world.

During check-in teams also get their hands on a coveted player T-shirt.

"They are cool, I like the gray, not red anymore," said Cody Moreland, a volunteer and Hoopfest player.

Moreland looks forward to Hoopfest all year.  He said he gets more excited for the tournament than any other holiday, including his birthday.

There are approximately 7,000 teams playing during the tournament and that means 7,000 unique team names.

Teresa Hudak, a Hoopfest volunteer, said she's heard some creative and borderline inappropriate names while checking in teams.

"I think the youth come up with better names too," she said

You can check on your team from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Riverfront Park, under a white tent just west of the fountain.
