Even though Spokane is thousands of miles away from Connecticut, many people in our community want to do something to help.
"I was instantly brought to tears. I was so sad," Gonzaga University student Jennifer Van Cott said.
Within 10 minutes of hearing the tragic news on Friday, Van Cott knew she had to reach out.
Van Cott is compiling letters of love and hope for the families affected by this shooting. In just a few days, she's already received many kind, eloquent words from those in our community.
"He wrote to all those who are struggling you are so strong, I just wanted to let you know that people all over the country are praying for you," Van Cott said, as she read one of the letters.
She's already heard back from people as far away as Texas, because no matter the distance, we all want to do a little something to help ease the pain for those suffering in Newtown.
"As long as people want to keep sending them, I will send them," she said.
If you want to write a note, you can either email it to Jennifer at Jvancott@zagmail.gonzaga.edu or post them to the Facebook page she created: http://www.facebook.com/mobileprotection#!/ElementaryShootingOutreach.
