Former NFL star and local hero Steve Gleason is back in Spokane raising money to help others battling ALS.
Gleason was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease two years ago. Since his diagnoses, he started Team Gleason, a foundation to raise awareness about ALS and help others fighting the same disease.
Friday night, hundreds of friends and community members gathered at the Saranac Public House in downtown Spokane for Gleason Gras West.
Gleason, who is now in a wheelchair, reunited with childhood friends, and encouraged everyone to have a good time.
The event started last year in New Orleans and raised almost $400-thousand dollars. Gleason Gras West featured live bands and a silent auction.
"To have people, Spokane where I was raised come out and put in the effort tp produce something like this it's incredible for me," said SteveGleason.
"And, I think it's a testament to community of Spokane," he said.
