SPOKANE, Wash. -

George Markert, the director for the Office of Public Integrity for the Rochester, N.Y., was tapped as a finalist for Spokane police chief Wednesday morning.

Markert has served as the director for the Office of Public Integrity in Rochester since August of 2011. Prior to serving in that role he was the Executive Deputy Chief for the Rochester Police Department.

Prior to being named a finalist for the top cop position here in Spokane, Markert was a finalist under consideration for chief of police in Kansas City, MO.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Markert was also one of six finalists for police chief in West Palm Beach, Fla. in May to replace the former police chief in that city who resigned last fall.

Markert didn't make the final cut when the finalists was narrowed to two candidates; that post was recently filled with the hiring of Vince Demasi, a former assistant police chief from Cincinnati, Ohio.
