SPORTS HAVE THE POWER TO BRING FRIENDS AND FAMILY
AND AT THE SPOKANE CHIEFS GAME LAST NIGHT.
HOCKEY DID JUST THAT.
FOR ONE FATHER AND SON DUO.
THE SPORT GAME GAVE THEM THE REUNION OF A LIFETIME.
KXLY4'S DREW REEVES JOINS US NOW WITH MORE ON THEIR
WHEN YOU'VE BEEN DEPLOYED OVERSEAS.
AND HAVEN'T SEEN YOUR FAMILY IN MONTHS.
SOMETIMES A REUNION LIKE THIS IS JUST WHAT YOU NEED.
FOR WALTER WEBER.
THE CHIEFS GAME WAS THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO SURPRISE
HIS 7-YEAR-OLD SON.
WHO NEVER SAW IT COMING.
I'm waiting to see what my son's going to do , that's
what's going through my head, I'm waiting to see what
his reaction is going to be.
MANY PEOPLE WHO ATTEND A CHIEFS HOCKEY GAME ARE THERE
FOR THE EXCITEMENT OF THE SPORT.
WALTER SCOTT WEBER HAS BEEN GOING TO THE GAMES FOR
MORE THAN A DECADE.
AND PASSED HIS PASSION FOR HOCKEY ON TO HIS SON.
:30 - :39
When he was old enough to play hockey, we took him
out for beginner's hockey at Eagle's Ice Arena, and
he took to hockey like a fish takes to water.
THAT'S WHY HE DECIDED SATURDAY NIGHT'S CHIEFS GAME
WAS THE PERFECT PLACE FOR A HOMECOMING REUNION.
THIS HAS BEEN A HOMECOMING 7 MONTHS IN THE MAKING.
WEBER HAS BEEN SERVING IN THE AIR FORCE OVERSEAS.
RISKING HIS LIFE TO KEEP OUR COUNTY SAFE.
:05 - :14
We were at Bagrum Air Force Base in Afghanistan and
we were providing security and base defense for the
largest combat air hub in the Air Force.
AND HIS SON, BRITAIN.
HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS ABOUT TO COME.
:20 - :35
He knows I'm going to be home soon.
He doesn't know it was yesterday, doesn't know I'm
going to be here today.
He knows he's here to be 7th man, which he's done
He knows he's going to be doing a puck drop, which
he hasn't done before.
SO WHEN IT CAME TIME FOR THE CEREMONIAL PUCK DROP.
BRITAIN SKATED OUT TO THE CENTER OF THE ICE.
UNAWARE HE WAS ABOUT TO GET AN EVEN BIGGER SURPRISE.
:55 - :07
As 20-year air force sergeant Walter Weber joins his
A HOMECOMING UNLIKE ANY OTHER.
ON DISPLAY FOR THOUSANDS.
