Detectives working to determine if Keyes connected to cold cases
Spokane County Sheriff's deputies are combing through cold cases looking for any link to serial killer Israel Keyes.
Before killing himself in an Alaska jail, Keyes confessed to killing people across the country, including four people in Washington. He lived in Colville in the 1990's.
Two major crimes detectives will sit down and look through 45 cold case homicides and missing person files to see if any overlap with the time Keyes was in this area.
Detectives are looking at both cold case homicides and missing persons to see if there are any connections.
"Those missing people could very well turn into homicide victims," Chamberlin said.
As of now, the sheriff's office doesn't have a criminal link between Keyes and the Spokane area. Detectives just found out about the alleged Washington victim and are starting to work on a timeline of when Keyes may have been in the area.
Chamberlin said this is a team effort and that surrounding agencies will be working together and talking to each other as they look to see if any of their cases could be connected to Keyes.
