SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -

Spokane Valley officers are searching for an assault suspect who hit a man in the head with a sword.

Monday evening deputies responded to the area near Cement and Portland Road on an assault call. The victim told a sheriff's deputy that he was walking home from a bar when he saw a vehicle parked in the middle of the street with a man sitting in the driver's seat and a woman standing outside the passenger side door yelling at a man standing in the yard at 12300 E. Portland.

As the victim walked past the scene he said the woman, later identified as Lilian Howell, 48, walked up to him flailing her arms as if she was going to hit him. He put his arms up to protect himself when he noticed the driver of the car, 27-year-old Nicholas Howell, Lilian's son, get out of the car and approach him holding a large sword.

Howell then allegedly swung the sword, striking the victim in the head twice.

Neighbors came outside at that moment and got the sword away from Howell, which deputies later confiscated.

Deputies went to the Howell residence, where Lilian was found and arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and booked her in to the Spokane County Jail. Nicholas Howell was not at home at the time and authorities are searching for him to arrest him on a first degree assault charge.

Anyone with information of his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
