A MARRIED COUPLE.
RESPONSIBLE FOR A WILD POLICE CHASE ACROSS STATE LINES
AND THROUGH THE SPOKANE VALLEY WON'T BE GETTING OUT
OF JAIL ANYTIME SOON.
TODAY A SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE DENIED ADOLFO VAZQUEZ'S
REQUEST FOR A BOND REDUCTION AFTER HE ALLEGEDLY THREW
AN AXE AND OTHER TOOLS AT PURSUING OFFICERS.
VAZQUEZ'S WIFE, WHO WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE STOLEN
CAR, EVENTUALLY LOST CONTROL AT PINES AND INTERSTATE
KXLY FOUR'S JEFF HUMPHREY JOINS US LIVE AT THE SPOKANE
COUNTY JAIL WHERE THE COUPLE IS STILL BEHIND BARS
WITH A LOOK AT POLICE DASH CAM VIDEO OF THAT CRAZY
YOU WON'T SEE IT IN THE DASH CAM VIDEO BUT THIS IS
THE TYPE OF TOOL MR.
VAZQUEZ ALLEGEDLY HUCKED AT THE PURSUING OFFICERS.
IF YOU CATCH THE BLADED END OF A PULASKI THROUGH YOUR
WINDHSHIED DOING FREEWAY SPEEDS CHANCES ARE IT'S GOING
TO END UP IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WITH YOU.
IT STARTED WHEN AN OFF DUTY POST FALLS POLICE EMPLOYEE
SPOTTED A STOLEN PURPLE VAN IN A WAL-MART PARKING
BY THE TIME OFFICER PAT EISMANN CAN TURN HIS PATROL
CAR AROUND, THE DRIVER HAS PUNCHED THE ACCELERATOR.
EISMANN CATCHES UP ON INTERSTATE 90, RADIOING IN THE
VEHICLE'S DESRCIPTION AND DIRECTION.
19;38 what are the speeds, what are the conditions,
those types of things are going through your head
and the supervisor always has that in the back of
anytime he or she hears anything that constitutes
danger, they're looking to terminate a pursuit as
soon as they can 19;52
HOWEVER POST FALLS P.D.
DIDN'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF TERMINATING THIS PURSUIT.
THE STOLEN VAN IS FILLED WITH LAWN CARE EQUIPMENT.
PASSENGER ADOLFO VAZQUEZ BREAKS OUT THE SIDE WINDOW.
20;22 when the officers saw the window get shattered,
they were concerned potentialy about bullets coming
down range at them.20;27
BUT INSTEAD OF BULLETS, PURSUING OFFICERS DODGE THINGS
LIKE SHOVELS AND A LEAF BLOWER.
THE DRIVER ANNOUNCES THE VAN IS LOW ON FUEL, SO VAZQUEZ
LEANS OUT THE WINDOW WITH A GAS CAN IN A DESPARATE
ATTEMPT TO PUT MORE IN THE TANK.
20;27 didn't know what was happening but did see an
individual handing out the back window, it appeared
he was trying to put gas in his car.but none the less,
they started throwing items out of the vehicle at
that point 20;35
WHILE OTHER OFFICER'S STOPPED TO GET THE DEBRIS OFF
THE INTERSTATE, SPOKANE COUNTY JOINS THE PURSUIT AND
ENDS IT WHEN AMBER VAZQUEZ LOSES CONTROL LEAVING I-90.
TODAY SHE GIGGLED WHEN SHE WAS ARRAIGNED ON CAR THEFT
AND ELUDING CHARGES.
POLICE SAY OTHER DRIVERS DID A GOOD JOB GETTING AWAY
FROM THE PURSUIT AND TELLING 9-1-1 WHERE THE VAZQUEZ'S
HAD LITTERED THE TRAVEL LANES WITH LAWN EQUIPMENT.
21;51 i think the citizenry is getting more involved
this day and age.
they want to help out.
if they see something and they want to call in and
be a good witness.
where we didn't see that years ago, i think that's
a good thing 22;04
UNFORTUNATLY FOR US, PEOPLE BOOKED INTO JAIL FOR STEALING
OUR CARS ARE OFTEN PUT ON VERY LOW BONDS AND RELEASED
THE NEXT DAY.
BUT BECAUSE OF THE DANGER THE VAZQUEZ'S ALLEGEDLY
PUT EVERYONE IN THE DAY OF THIS CHASE, TONIGHT THEIR
BOND REMAINS AT FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS.
REPORTING IN SPOKANE, JEFF HUMPHREY, KXLY FOUR.
