SPOKANE, Wash. -

A new fitness craze has landed in Spokane which mixes ballet with strength conditioning.

It's called the "Barre" workout. It's modeled after classical ballet moves and mixed with modern fitness to get the long and lean body of a ballerina.

"It's this great fusion that's really powerful because we're strengthening the muscles. We're utilizing a lot of positions from ballet and a lot of movements in ballet that build those, long strong muscles," said Spokane Barre owner Emily Rogers.

Jac Davies was looking for something new at age 53 and found it at the Spokane Barre Studio.

"I can feel my strength developing. I'm standing straighter, you know, I can feel the strength in my back in particular," said Davies.

Rogers says the workout is for everyone and there is no dance experience required,.

The Barre Studio is at 201 West Riverside Avenue on the second level. Classes run morning, noon and night.
