Avista is blaming a copper wire theft at a susbstation for a power outage that left 3,600 people without electricity in North Central Spokane Wednesday morning.
The outage was reported just before 7 a.m. and power was restored by 9 a.m.
Avista first reported that the outage occurred at one of its substations near Spokane Falls Community College and power was rerouted to other substations in the area.
By Wednesday afternoon Avista determined the outage was caused by the theft of copper wire from the substation near SFCC. Thieves also damaged communications equipment at the substation, according to Avista spokesman Dan Kolbet.
Damage repair is ongoing at the substation.
