Josh Gahl, the man who chased down a suspected killer in East Spokane was honored by Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub at Monday night's city council meeting.

Gahl came to the rescue of a woman being attacked on the Centennial Trail near Mission Park last month. He chased the suspect, later identified as 17-year-old Avondre Graham, into the river where police were able to fish him out and arrest him.

At the city council meeting Monday, Chief Straub honored Gahl with the chief's Citizen Award for his actions.

Graham is accused of attacking Sharlotte McGill last May while she walked her dog along South Riverton Road in East Spokane, not far from where he was later arrested.

He's also accused of attacking two other women.

Last month he pleaded not guilty to all charges. He's being held on a $1 Million bond.
