COLFAX, Wash. -

A would-be burglar told deputies he was upset after he was tied up and left lying on the garage floor of the home he attempted to burglarize Wednesday morning in St. John.

At 6 a.m. deputies received a 911 call from a St. John homeowner that her husband was fighting with someone they discovered attempting to burglarize their home. The caller later called authorities back, saying the burglar had been "secured" and they would be waiting for deputies to arrive.

Michael McCarthy, 47, the would-be burglar, was found by deputies zip tied and lying in the middle of the floor of the homeowner's garage.

McCarthy admitted, during an interview with deputies, that he attempted to break into the home in order to steal from the homeowners, but felt that his actions did not warrant being assaulted by the homeowner.

He was booked into the Whitman County Jail on charges of Residential Burglary, Vehicle Prowl, Malicious Mischief, Assault and Theft.
