SPOKANE, Wash -

Major crimes detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in north central Spokane Monday morning.

Workers at a garage at Atlantic Road and Division Road found the body in an alley when they came to work.

Detectives believe the victim is a transient who could have been in the area the weekend before his body was discovered. They also said there was enough suspicious things about the man's body that police are treating the case as a homicide.

Major crimes detectives and crime scene technicians processed the scene. They also had the medical examiner look at the victim. Detectives said it appears the man was robbed before or after his death.

Investigators said they now need to figure out who was hanging with the victim in the last days he was alive.

"At this point we're just asking if anybody has any information about people they've seen living here or heard of any altercations over the night or morning hours. We need to get that information," said Officer Jennifer DeRuwe of the Spokane Police Department.

Investigators said they will be showing the man's picture at local shelters to figure out more about the man's lifestyle.

An autopsy is scheduled for later in the week.
