The Grant County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a 60-year-old Moses Lake man.
Deputies received a call Saturday night around 9:30 of an assault in the 7700 block of Clink Street. The man was found in the home and was shot once, though deputies did not say where he was shot.
He was transported to Samaritan Hospital where he died a short time later. Sheriff's spokesman Kyle Foreman could not say yet why the man was shot or if they have any suspects.
Deputies don't believe this was a random shooting. Detectives were at the house overnight into Sunday and cleared the scene around 9:30 a.m.
The victim's landlord Agnes Lopez was on her front porch about one block away when the shooting happened.
"We heard a great big bang, just a terrible bang," Lopez said.
Lopez has rented out the home where the man was shot for 40 years.
"It was scary because we haven't had anything like that around here," she said.
Lopez says the man lived there for two years with his girlfriend. Deputies say that woman was questioned at the scene, and is not considered a suspect right now.
Lopez says the victim was a retired mechanic who would often work on his cars in the front yard.
The man's name will be released once an autopsy is completed, and his family is notified. Deputies ask if you have any information on this shooting to please call them at 509-762-1160.
