IT'S ALMOST TIME TO HEAD BACK TO SCHOOL.
AND, FOR MANY KIDS IN OUR REGION, GETTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES
FOR FOSTER KIDS, IT'S ONE MORE THING TO WORRY ABOUT.
BUT, A SPOKANE GIRL WANTS TO HELP
KXLY4'S MELISSA LUCK HAS THE STORY OF HOW ONE CHILD'S
BIRTHDAY PARTY COULD HELP KIDS IN NEED.
STAND UP @
I'm not sure what I asked for for my 8th birthday,
but I'm sure my mom would tell you it was something
Not the case here at this birthday party in North
Spokane - where one little girl wants to make sure
her birthday party will help kids she's never met.
NATS/GOING DOWN THE SLIDE
WHEN IT WAS TIME TO MAP OUT HER 8TH BIRTHDAY PARTY
FOR TODAY, REEGAN WELCH PLANNED LIKE A TYPICAL KID
We're going down the waterslide and just playing and
BUT, WHEN IT CAME TO WHAT SHE WANTED HER GUESTS TO
BRING, SHE HAD A VERY GROWN UP IDEA IN MIND.
Me and my parents were watching TV and this foster
kids commercial came on and I told my mom - I wanted
to do that for my 8th birthday.
You wanted to do what? Raised school supplies for
foster kids.W15 24
REEGAN'S PARENTS WERE AS SURPRISED AS ANYONE ABOUT
THEIR LITTLE GIRL'S PLAN TO HELP FOSTER KIDS.
SOT/MIKE WELCH @ :28
Nobody asked her - we didnt coach her - she came up
with the idea on her own.
WHERE DOES A CHILD, WHO HAS NEVER EVEN KNOWN A FOSTER
KID, COME UP WITH AN IDEA LIKE THIS?
HER PARENTS AREN'T EXACTLY SURE...MAYBE ALL THE LESSONS
THEY'VE TAUGHT ARE SINKING IN.
AND, THE LESSONS SHE'S LEARNING AT ST ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC
SCHOOL, WHERE REEGAN WILL BE A SECOND GRADER THIS

We try and live our faith through our actions.
When you can see our kids doing something like this
- and I really was the last to know about the school
I was very happy.
AND EVEN BEFORE THE PARTY OFFICIALLY STARTED THIS
AFTERNOON, REEGAN WAS SEEING HER IDEA COME TO LIFE..
We've gotten backpacks and school supplies...
GUESTS WILL LEAVE SOAKED FROM THE WATERSLIDE, HIGH
ON SUGAR FROM THE CUPCAKES REEGAN MADE.
AND, A LITTLE WISER - ABOUT REEGAN'S SELFLESSNESS
EVEN ON HER OWN BIRTHDAY.
Foster kids don't have much school supplies and stuff,
so I want to do something nice for them.
If you want to help Reegan in her quest to get school
supplies for foster kids,
