VANDALS STRUCK IN BROWNE'S ADDITION LAST NIGHT, REMOVING
THE HEAD FROM AN ICONIC STATUE OF MRS.
J-J BROWNE AND HER DAUGHTER.
THE STATUE HAS STOOD SINCE 2005, CREATED BY THE SAME
ARTIST WHO GAVE US THE BELOVED GARBAGE GOAT IN RIVERFRONT
KXLY'S ALLIE NORTON JOINS US TONIGHT IN BROWNE'S ADDITION.
ALLIE, ARE THERE ANY LEADS? NOT AS OF NOW, NADINE.
RESIDENTS HAVE HEARD RUMORS THAT THE HEAD WAS FOUND,
BUT NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL MEMBERS SAY THEY'LL BELIEVE
IT WHEN THEY SEE IT.
SOME RESIDENTS HAVE HIGH HOPES THAT IT WILL BE RETURNED.
It's just a great reflection of the neighborhood and
the origin, so we want her back.
IT'S A SCENE STRAIGHT OUT THE POPULAR CARTOON THE
INSTEAD OF BART STEALING THE HEAD ON THE STATUE OF
THE WIFE OF THE FOUNDER OF BROWNE'S ADDITION.
I went out and looked at it and it looked like it
was just ripped off, like you take a coat hanger and
keep bending it until it breaks apart.
THE LIFE SIZED PIECE WAS MADE BY WELL-RENOWNED ARTIST
SISTER PAULA MARY TURNBULL.
IT FEATURES ANNA BROWNE HOLDING HER DAUGHTER, ALTA'S
Her husband J.J.
Browne actually bought the land and developed Browne's
Addition, but she was his partner.
IT WAS PLACED AT IT'S CURRENT LOCATION ON FIRST AND
RIVERSIDE BACK IN 2005.
HAVING BEEN THERE ALMOST 10 YEARS.
IT'S NO SURPRISE THAT WHEN HER HEAD WENT MISSING.
THE COMMUNITY WAS OUTRAGED.
She was a person with a lot of elegance and a lot
of personality, so that embraces Browne's Addition,
so having that type of vandalism is really painful
for all of us who live here.
THE TOPIC WAS A HOT ITEM AT TONIGHT'S NEIGHBORHOOD
So just within the last day or two Mrs.
Brownes' head has been stolen off the statue where
First and Pacific come together, which is very very

It means a lot to us and to a lot of people.
