NOW TO KXLY4'S FIREWATCH COVERAGE.
A FIRE CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF THOSE LIVING IN LIBERTY
LAKE TODAY AS A COLUMN OF SMOKE COULD BE SEEN ON THE
TONIGHT THAT FIRE IS COMPETELY LINED.
KXLY-4'S JOHN HENDRICKS HAS THE LATEST FROM THE FIRE
By air and by ground, firefighters worked for several
hours in the afternoon heat today to get the Henry
Road Fire under control.
AN EERIE SCENE FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN LIBERTY LAKE THIS
Fire conditions are extreme right now.
A COLUMN OF SMOKE LIFTING FROM THE TREES NEAR MICA
Steep and treacherous and access is very limited at
this time, crews are having to hike in.
It's about a 40 minute hike in.
AS FIREFIGHTERS MADE THEIR MARCH TO THE FLAMES.
BUCKETS OF WATER LIFTED FROM A NEARBY POND AND FLOWN
UP THE CANYON.
Definitely active fire up there, we've been fortunante
the weather has been fairly calm this morning but
as you know at any moment we could get wind especially
at this time of day.
FORTUNANTLY THOSE WINDS NEVER CAME ALLOWING FIREFIGHTERS
TO HOLD THE HENRY CANYON ROAD FIRE TO JUST 27 ACRES.
NO HOMES WERE EVER THREATENED.
BUT CREWS SAY THEY WERE READY INCASE THE WINDS CHANGED.
TONIGHT THEY'RE WATCHING OVER THOSE PUFFS OF SMOKE.
MAKING SURE THEY DON'T JUMP CANTAINMENT LINES.
REPORTING NEAR LIBERTY LAKE.
