A MYSTERIOUS ART PROJECT IS TAKING SHAPE ON THE NORTH
SIDE OF THE MONROE STREET BRIDGE.
THAT'S WHERE SOMEONE IS USING FRACTURED BASALT TO
CREATE SEVERAL GALLERIES OF ROCK SCULPTURES.
KXLY4'S JEFF HUMPHREY SET OUT TO SEE WHO'S BEHIND
THE ART AND HOW LONG IT'LL BE ON DISPLAY.
THEY ARE CALLED CAIRNS AND THROUGHOUT HISTORY USED
TO MARK HARD TO SPOT TRAILS OR HAZARDS AHEAD.
IN THIS CASE THEY ARE MORE AN AD HOC EXPRESSION OF
ART BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHO THE HEAVY LIFTING
, RIGHT NEXT DOOR YOU'LL FIND ROGER BERRY'S
CAT CARREL/ 28;55 we have some permanent art installations
as well as some installations coming up in the future
and we invite everyone to come down and enjoy the
wonderful art we have on site.
AND RECENTLY, SOME UNEXPECTED ART HAS SHOWED UP HERE
CAREFULLY STACKED TOWERS OF ROCK.
ARE THEY A TOURIST ATTRACTION OR DIVINELY INSPIRED?
cat 29;13 well the cairns are kind of an interesting
phenomenon, they just kind of popped up and.
29;33 we're not sure who did them, or how long they'll
stay but for now i think they're pretty cool.29;39
SOMEONE HAS PUT A LOT OF TIME INTO THIS HARD ROCK
THEY BEEN USING COUNTERWEIGHTS AND GRAVITY TO MAKE
THESE SCULPTURES LARGER AND MORE DURABLE...SOME OF
THEM WEIGH IN AT MORE THAN 200 POUNDS.
THE ARTISTS HAVE EVEN INCORPORATED PIECES OF CONSTRUCTION
DEBRIS TO GIVE THEIR CREATIONS A LITTLE MORE FLAIR.
TAYLOR JAMISON/ STUDENT 39;00 i like that it's anonymous
and i like that someone is creating beauty for everyone
to see 39;05
BUT NO ONE WE'VE TALKED TO HAVE MANAGED TO SEE THE
ARTIST AT WORK AND THE RESIDENT MARMOTS AREN'T TALKING.
KENDALL YARDS DEVELOPER JIM FRANK, WHO'S AN ART FAN
HIMSELF, SAYS THE CAIRNS CAN STAY FOR NOW.
CAT CARREL/ GREENSTONE HOMES
29;54 as far as i know the cairns are going
to stay until something else happens on that lot 30;00
THIS VACANT LOT ART PROJECT IS WORTHY OF A FEW MOMENTS
OF YOUR TIME BUT KENDALL YARDS SEEMS TO BE ADDING
RESTAURANTS AND TRAILS AND EVEN DOG FRIENDLY ATTRACTIONS
ON A MONTHLY BASIS.
AS THE WEATHER IMPROVES YOU OWE TO YOURSELF TO COME
DOWN AND SEE WHAT THIS NEW COMMUNITY HAS TO OFFER.
