We actually met on a blind date, we got set up by
a friend of ours here in town
JOHN MORIARTY HAS BEEN WITH HIS WIFE GINA FOR OVER
SHE IS HIS GREATEST LOVE... WELL HER AND GOLF.
About a year ago Gina came down with a very severe
case of pneumonia. She was in the hospital for two
months and there was a lot of damage done to her lungs.
AT AGE TWO GINA WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CYSTIC FIBROSIS.
AND NOW AT AGE 30.... WITH JUST 15 PERCENT LUNG CAPACITY...
SHE NEEDS A DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT.
It's a really tough disease. On the outside she looks
pretty healthy but every day is a struggle for her
just to get out of bed.
TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR GINA'S MEDICAL COSTS... JOHN
HAS CHANGED THE FOCUS OF
HIS ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT..
THE BIG KAHUNA... TO HELP HIS WIFE.
It's a double shotgun start on July 12th, four person
teams, it's a scramble format, it's all for fun.
WHERE INSURANCE DOES COVER MOST OF THE NEARLY ONE
MILLION DOLLAR PROCEDURE... THE COUPLE STILL HAS TO
PAY A LOT OUT OF POCKET.
We have to actually move over to Seattle and live
in transplant housing and that's something that's
not covered by insurance and it's roughly three to
four thousand dollars a month.
THE COST... IS UNAVOIDABLE...
BUT LOSING GINA... NOT AN OPTION.
THE NEW LUNGS WILL HELP GINA AND HER FAMILY... BREATH
A LITTLE EASIER.
