BABY FAWNS AND OTHER YOUNG WILDLIFE ARE ALL OVER EASTERN
WASHINGTON AND NORTH IDAHO THIS TIME OF YEAR.
THEY ARE CUTE.
BUT KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF!
KXLY 4'S CAITI CURREY IS WORKING FOR YOU WITH INFORMATION
THAT COULD SAVE A YOUNG ANIMALS LIFE.
THE SPRINGTIME MEANS A LOT OF YOUNG WILD LIFE BUT
UNFORTUNATELY THAT ALSO MEANS A LOT OF ABANDONED WILD
THERE ARE A FEW TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND IN CASE YOU COME
ACROSS A YOUNG FAWN.
Dawn Harder W11 25
We heard it through the night and it was yelping and
IT'S THE SCENE EVERYONE TURNS AWAY FROM IN BAMBI.
THE MOM IS KILLED.
LEAVING BAMBI TO SURVIVE ON HIS OWN.
DAWN W12 25
We had a mom down the road that was hit and we kind
of figured that was probably mom.
BUT REALISTICALLY IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN THAN WE REALIZE.
AND EXPERTS SAY IT'S A PART OF LIFE.
OMLER W13 25
Let's all remember death is a part of life.
Sometimes mother nature is not fair.
MARILYN OMLER FROM PONTI VETERINARY HOSPITAL SAYS
AS HARD AS IT IS.
LEAVE THE ANIMALS WHERE YOU FIND THEM.
You're going to go camping, you're going to see these
guys, walk away.
Leave them in the wild.
WHETHER IT'S BIRDS.
CAN LEAVE THEIR YOUNG FOR UP TO TEN HOURS A DAY.
ANIMALS LIKE FAWN.
ARE BORN WITHOUT A SCENT SO THEY WON'T ATTRACT PREDATORS.
IF YOU TOUCH A YOUNG ANIMAL WHILE THEIR MOM IS AWAY.
THEY INSTANTLY BECOME MORE VULNERABLE TO PREDATORS.
We did leave her out there for 24 hours to make sure
mom wasn't coming so that's when I responded to the
OMLER SAYS WHEN YOU FIND A YOUNG ANIMAL AND CAN CONFIRM
THE MOM IS DEAD.
FIRST CALL THE WILD LIFE DEPARTMENT...
THEN DO WHAT DAWN HARDER AND HER NEIGHBORS DID.
CALL A WILD LIFE REHABILITATION CENTER.
DAWN :07 W16 25
She needs care that obviously we can't do.
PONTI ANIMAL CARE WILL REHABILITATE THE YOUNG FAWN
LIKELY UNTIL SEPTEMBER.
AND THEN RELEASE IT BACK INTO THE WILD.
Now she has a chance.
REPORTING IN SPOKANE.
