MILD WEATHER AND AN EXTENDED WEEKEND WILL HAVE A LOT
OF FOLKS HEADING OUTDOORS.
BUT A WARNING TONIGHT.... LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES HOME.
CAR PROWLINGS AT MANY SPOTS ARE ON THE RISE.
KXLY 4'S CAITI CURREY IS WORKING FOR YOU WITH NEED-TO-KNOW
INFORMATION... BEFORE YOU HEAD OUTDOORS.
MEMORIAL WEEKEND IS HERE...
AND IF YOU'RE HEADING OUT AND ABOUT THE SPOKANE SHERIFF'S
DEPARTMENT HAS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR YOU
Don't bring any valuables.
SPECIFICALLY... AROUND THE CENTENNIAL TRAIL.
Just this past week we've seen about 16 reported incidents
and it's not specifically located, its all the way
from the west planes to the Idaho state Lines.
THIEFS NABBING WHATEVER THEY CAN GET THEIR HANDS ON.
GPS devices, purses, wallets, coach purses with women
seems like to be a big hitter right now.
SOME PEOPLE DIDN'T REALIZE THEY WERE VICTIMIZED UNTIL
BECAUSE SUSPECTS STOLE INDIVIDUAL CHECKS OUT OF THE
BACK OF THE VICTIMS CHECK BOOK.
THEY HADN'T REALIZED ANYTHING WAS WRONG UNTIL THEIR
BANK NOTIFIED THEM, OR THEY REACHED THE MISSING CHECK.
WITH THE CENTENNIAL TRAIL HEAD PARKING LOTS OFF THE
BEATEN PATH... ONE LOCAL SAYS IT JUST GOES TO SHOW...
you're not safe in the daylight
AUSTIN BECKER SAYS EVEN THOUGH HE TRIES TO BE CAUTIOUS
WHEN OUT ON THE TRAILS....
I always have that in the back of my head... I hope
no windows are broken... and everything is still in
AND ACCORDING TO THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT... THAT'S
EXACTLY HOW THE ROBBERIES ARE HAPPENING.
They're wasting no time. Now we are seeing a lot of
smash and grabs where they are breaking windows to
grab things that are out in plane view."
OFFICIALS SAYS THERE IS ONE EASY WAY TO AVOID THE
HASSLE OF GETTING YOU CAR STOLEN...
Leave those things at home. If you have to bring certain
items, lock them in your trunk out of plane view from
the criminal element.
IF YOU SPOT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY ALONG THE TRAIL,
YOU CAN REPORT IT TO CRIME CHECK AT 456-2233.
