THE CITY HOPES YOU'LL GET ON BOARD WITH A NEW PLAN
TO FIX SPOKANE STREETS.
KXLY 4'S AARON LUNA IS WORKING FOR YOU TO TELL US
HOW THE CITY WILL PRIORITIZE STREET REPAIRS.
PART OF THE CITY'S 20 YEAR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FOR
TRANSPORTATION INVOLVES APPROVING A LEVY THAT WOULD
GENERATE AROUND 25 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR FOR STREET
IMPROVEMENTS OVER THE NEXT 20 YEARS.
IT'S NOT HARD TO FIND A ROUGH ROAD IN SPOKANE
POT HOLES ABOUND, SNAGGING THE UNSUSPECTING HUBCAP
FROM DRIVERS TRYING TO AVOID THE WORST OF IT.
BUT THE CITY HAS A NEW PLAN TO FIX THOSE STREETS.
The levy would sunset after 20 years and the park
bond would be paid off in 20 years,
IT'S CALLED CREATIVE FINANCING.
TAKING THREE STREET AND PARK
BONDS FROM 2004 AND REFINANCING
THEM INTO A LEVY AND A BOND.
A LEVY TO PUMP AROUND 25 MILLION A YEAR INTO ROAD
REPAIRS BUT KEEP PROPERTY TAXES THE SAME.
ROADS REPAIRS WOULD THEN BE PRIORITIZED BY SEVERAL
FACTORS INCLUDING WHICH PROJECTS WOULD GENERATE THE
MOST BANG FOR THE CONSTRUCTION BUCK.
Pavement condition, need to replace water main or
sewer main, it could be the need to increase bike
paths or pedestrian access to schools,
THERE ARE SOME ROADS THAT ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF
We hear a lot about the lower portion of Lincoln and
Right now that's a project that's in planning and
we're going to get that fixed.
But that's the kind of imput that we're seeking from
our citizens, what makes sense to you, where are the
worst streets? said Feist.
THE CITY COUNCIL WILL DRAFT THE MEASURES FOR THE NOVEMBER
BALLOT SOMETIME IN JULY OR EARLY AUGUST.
THE BOND CREATED DURING THAT CREATIVE FINANCING WILL
GO TO FUND THE IMPROVEMENTS OF RIVERFRONT PARK.
