IT IS JUST DAYS AWAY.
THE 37TH BLOOMSDAY RACE.
KXLY 4'S CAITI CURREY IS WORKING FOR YOU TONIGHT WITH
SOME TIPS FOR FIRST TIME BLOOMIES.
NADINE IT MAY BE THE 37TH BLOOMSDAY.
BUT IT IS MY FIRST!
I THOUGHT I WOULD ENLIST THE HELP OF SOME EXPERTS
WHO HAVE RAN IT ONCE OR TWICE!.
THE LARGE CROWD.
AND A FEW STEEP HILLS
I think Bloomsday is just a great time for the community
to come together.
IN ITS 37TH YEAR THE RACE STILL HAS MANY FIRST TIME
WHO ARE INEXPERIENCED WITH THE COURSE AND CROWDS.
there's lots of people out there, so 50 thousand people
will be out there participating.
WADE PANNEL OWNER OF FLEET FEET HAS RUN BLOOMSDAY
AS A VETERAN TO THE RACE HE HAS SOME ADVICE FOR FIRST
AND WHEN IT COMES TO THE HILLS...
Keep your head up towards the horizon, lean into the
hill to use gravity to help you get up the hill.
And pick up your cadence a little bit, so a few more
steps per mile so to speak hat will help you move
up the hill.
PANNEL ALSO SAYS DON'T BE AFRAID TO WALK.
AND TAKE A BREAK WHEN YOU REACH THE TOP.
HE SAYS IDEALLY...
train as much as you can before hand.
BUT WITH THE RACE BEING SO CLOSE, IT'S A LITTLE TOO
LATE TO START TRAINING.
People who haven't been training much, get into a
little bit later corral, at the start be ready to
walk a lot and enjoy the day.
DID I MENTION THE LARGE CROWDS ALREADY?!
PANNELS SAYS TO SOME THEY
CAN OFTEN BE THE MOST FRUSTRATING.
BUT UNAVOIDABLE PART OF BLOOMSDAY.
Be calm, during the race, keep a positive attitude,
be polite to all the people around you because they
will be cutting you off.
It should just be a day of fun out there.
IT IS TOO LATE TO REGISTER FOR THE RACE.
BUT YOU CAN STILL COME DOWN TO CHEER ON THE RUNNERS.
