THE CIRCUS WAS IN TOWN THIS WEEK.
BUT NOT EVERYONE WAS HAPPY ABOUT IT.
THE ANNUAL EVENT IS A FUNDRAISER FOR THE EL KATIF
THE FRATERNITY THAT KEEPS SHRINERS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
UP AND RUNNING.
KXLY'S ALLIE NORTON IS WORKING FOR YOU TONIGHT WITH
WHY SOME PEOPLE ARE AGAINST THE EVENT.
COME ON THROUGH.8
AFTER FOUR DAYS AT THE SPOKANE VALLEY MALL, IT'S TIME
FOR THE EL KITAF SHRINE CIRCUS TO HEAD OUT.
WHILE SOME ARE SAD TO SEE THE EVENT LEAVE.
SOT/KAYLA KATHLEEN- Visitor @
We've gone since I was little.
OTHERS ARE HOPING IT STAYS AWAY FOREVER.
PROTESTS WERE OUT MOST THE WEEKEND ASKING PEOPLE TO
NOT SUPPORT THE USE OF ANIMALS FOR ENTERTAINMENT.
SOME EVEN GO AS FAR AS CALLING THEM SLAVES.
BUT CIRCUS BOARD MEMBERS SAY THAT CAN'T BE FARTHER
FROM THE TRUTH.
GARY VAN DYKE- Chairman Of Circus @-
You cant operate a circus and not have your animals
taken care of.
They are so well taken care of.
All you have to do is be at the circus, see the circus
and look at the animals and you can tell how beautiful
the animals how well taken care of they are.
AND SO THE SHOW GOES ON.
SOT/ ALLIE NORTON @AllieKXLY @--
El Katif Shriners say that these events are what fund
them for the year and indirectly keep Shriner's hospitals
across the nation, up and running.
CIRCUS BOARD MEMBERS ESTIMATE THAT THEY RAISE ABOUT
THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH DAY.
SO AFTER FOUR DAYS IN SPOKANE.
THEY'RE LOOKING AT ROUGHLY 12 THOUSAND DOLLARS.
THIS ISN'T THE EL KATIF SHRINERS ONLY CIRCUS EVENT.
BUT BOARD MEMBERS SAY IT IS THEIR BIGGEST ONE.
NEXT WEEK THEY'LL HEAD TO PASCO.
AND THEN MOSES LAKE, THE WEEK AFTER THAT.
