DEER ARE TAKING OVER MEDICAL LAKE.
WHO SAY THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!
THE CITY IS NOW EXPLORING OPTIONS ABOUT WHAT CAN BE
DONE ABOUT THE DEER DILEMMA.
KXLY4'S KYLEE CRUZ IS WORKING FOR YOU TONIGHT.
SHE'S LIVE IN MEDICAL LAKE WITH A LOOK A CLOSER LOOK
AT THE PROBLEM.
WHEN YOU COME INTO MEDICAL LAKE, YOU'RE GREETED BY
AND OFTEN TIMES, YOU'RE GREETED BY A FOUR-LEGGED WILDLIFE
IT SEEMS THE ANIMAL HAS BECOME SOMEWHAT OF A MASCOT
TO THIS COMMUNITY AND NOW THE CITY IS TRYING TO FIGURE
OUT WHAT TO DO.
IN MEDICAL LAKE...
DEER HAVE EARNED QUIET THE REPUTATION IN TOWN.
there is more deer in this city than there is dogs,
MORE THAN FIDO.
THAT'S WHAT HARRY KEPLER THINKS.
you can drive around a corner and see 10 or 15 of
them just getting a sun tan
HARRY DOESN'T MIND THEM - MAYBE THAT'S BECAUSE THEY
TEND TO STAY OUT OF HIS LANDSCAPING.
BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE FOR RUBY EMERSON.
very common i come home and they are out in the front
yard, they like to trim my brushes up there
RUBY EVEN BUILT A FENCE AROUND HER GARDEN TO KEEP
THE ANIMAL OUT.
they just go super dominant around here, i had to
OTHER PEOPLE IN TOWN FEEL THE SAME WAY.
THE CITY SAYS THEY'VE GOTTEN SOME COMPLAINTS RECENTLY
- ABOUT DEER DOMINATING THE LANDSCAPE AND DESTROYING
we are trying to get some options about what we can
do here in the city if we do indeed have a problem
THEY'RE EVEN WORKING WITH A WILDLIFE SPECIALIST --
WHO CAME OUT TO SURVEY THE ISSUE.
as a city administrator i want the low cost to no
cost options, as we don't have a lot of spare money
for un-budgeted items
IN THE FUTURE, AN ORDINANCE COULD BE PASSED THAT WOULD
PROHIBIT RESIDENTS FROM FEEDING DEER.
THE CITY COULD EVEN TRAP AND RELOCATE THE DEER.
THAT'S ALL UP TO CITY COUNCIL.
BUT IN THE MEANTIME...
i think they are wonderful
HARRY WILL ENJOY HIS MOMENTS WITH BAMBI IN HIS BACKYARD.
THE WILDLIFE SPECIALIST FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF FISH
AND WILDLIFE WILL PRESENT HER FINDINGS ON THE DEER
IN TOWN, AND WHAT COULD BE DONE.
TO THE CITY COUNCIL IN MAY.
