SPOKANE COUNTY VOTERS MAY BE ASKED NEXT SPRING TO
APPROVE A $45-MILLION DOLLAR PARK LEVY.
IT WOULD PAY FOR A NEW SPORTS COMPLEX IN DOWNTOWN
ALONG WITH IMPROVEMENTS AT COUNTY PARKS.
KXLY4'S KYLEE CRUZ IS LIVE IN DOWNTOWN TONIGHT WITH
A LOOK AT SOME OF THOSE IMPROVEMENTS.
IT'S A DIRT LOT NOW BUT THIS SITE ON THE NORTH BANK
OF THE RIVER COULD BE HOME TO A MASSIVE, 20-MILLION
DOLLAR, MULTI-USE FIELD HOUSE - COMPLETE WITH AN INDOOR
THIS IS JUST ONE PIECE OF THE POTENTIAL 45 MILLION
DOLLAR PARK LEVY.
TODAY'S CLOUDS AND RAIN DIDN'T KEEP BOB ANDRESS AND
HIS DOG INDOORS.
THEY SPENT THE AFTERNOON AT PLANTEE'S FERRY PARK.
it's a wonderful, quiet park, beautiful grass, beautiful
AND IT COULD GET A BIG UPGRADE WITH ADDITIONAL SOCCER
FIELDS AND PARKING.
THAT'S BECAUSE OF A POTENTIAL PARK LEVY ON THE APRIL
we are greatly in need
SPOKANE COUNTY PARKS DIRECTOR DOUG CHASE SAYS IT'S
A LONG TIME COMING!
we really think they are heavily used and enjoyed
by the community and this is one of the opportunities
where the community would see that direct return
THE SOUTHSIDE AQUATICS CENTER WOULD ADD TWO WATER
SIDES AND DEVELOP 10 ACRES OF PARKLAND AROUND IT,
COMPLETE WITH BASEBALL FIELDS.
IMPROVEMENTS TO FISH LAKE TRAIL WOULD BE MADE.
ABOUT 10 COUNTY PARKS COULD BE MODERNIZED AND GET
NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT.
AND THAT'S NOT ALL.
we are looking at everything from enhancing our park
out in liberty lake to re-developing our existing
bear lake park
BUT THE BIGGEST PROJECT.
AN INDOOR FIELD HOUSE IN DOWNTOWN SPOKANE THAT WOULD
HOUSE TRACK MEETS AND VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENTS.
i think it's a chance for us to say this is who we
are, this is a place we want our kids to grow up in,
we want to have safe alternatives
THE POSSIBLE LEVY WAS JUST ANNOUNCED.
BUT ANDRESS ISN'T QUITE SURE HOW HE FEELS, ABOUT FORKING
OVER A LITTLE EXTRA CASH TO PAY FOR IT ALL.
im kind of old fashion i like things the way they
are kinda, and i noticed anytime things get better
and better, more traffic comes through
THE LEVY WOULD COST THE OWNER OF A $200,000 HOME ABOUT
$28 A YEAR IN PROPERTY TAXES.
IT WOULD RUN FOR 9 YEARS.
ULTIMATELY, THE SPOKANE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WOULD
HAVE TO VOTE TO PUT IT ON THE APRIL 2015 BALLOT.
