A RELATIVELY NEW APP ON YOUR PHONE -- IS HELPING PEOPLE
ACROSS THE INLAND NORTHWEST.
A PRIVATE SOCIAL NETWORK FOR YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.
KXLY4'S IAN CULL IS WORKING 4 YOU -- TO SHOW YOU APPS
THAT HELP YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD STAY SAFE AND CONNECTED.
IAN'S LIVE FROM THE LOGAN NEIGHBORHOOD TO EXPLAIN
THIS IS ONE OF 80 NEIGHBORHOODS IN SPOKANE USING THE
NEXT DOOR APP.
IT DOES EVERYTHING FROM ALERTING NEIGHBORS OF SUSPICIOUS
ACTIVITY -- TO HELP FINDING LOST DOGS.
ONE NEIGHBORHOOD UP NORTH -- MAY JUST BE THE FLAGSHIP

We do annual clean-up days, we had a big Oktoberfest.
IT WASN'T ALWAYS THIS WAY.
KATHY MAGUIRE, FAIRWOOD PARK @ 9
Immediately when I connected to it, I realized it
was the way our neighborhood needed to communicate.
KATHY MAGUIRE WAS RECENTLY INTRODUCED TO THE NEXT
SHE POLITELY SHARED WITH HER NEIGHBORS.

You can post classifieds, and I've seen people get
connected with items they need or want to sell.
ON THE APP YOU CAN SHARE RECOMMENDATIONS ON DENTISTS,
ELECTRICIANS, OR BABYSITTERS.
YOU CAN ALSO ALERT THEM OF A LOST DOG -- OR EVEN CRIME.
IT CAME IN HANDY, JUST THIS MORNING.
KATHY MAGUIRE, FAIRWOOD PARK @ 11
All throughout our neighborhood there was break-ins
So there were three posts this morning from residents
just saying, 'hey, be aware.

THE COUPLE'S LIVED IN THEIR HOME FOR 40 YEARS.
THE FORMER BLOCK WATCH CAPTIANS SAY NEXT DOOR -- IS
THE BLOCK WATCH OF THE FUTURE.
PAT BURNS, KATHY'S NEIGHBOR @ 12
This way everyone checks their e-mails pretty often
and it's a quicker response for everybody and/or warning
or a fun time.
AND THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS -- WHEN ONE FAMILY'S HOUSE
BURNED DOWN -- THE APP BROUGHT QUITE THE RESPONSE.
KATHY MAGUIRE, FAIRWOOD PARK @ 13
Another Fairwood resident who is away for the winter
saw the post on Next Door, and offered up their home,
their vacant home to the displaced owners...to stay
in until they come back.
SOME SAY SMARTPHONES AND SOCIAL NETWORKS DIVIDE US,
THESE NEIGHBORS SAY IT UNITES THEM.
KATHY MAGUIRE, FAIRWOOD PARK @ 14
It's a great neighborhood.
ONCE AGAIN, THE APP IS FREE AND CAN BE FOUND ON YOUR
IPHONE OR ANDROID DEVICE.
IAN, HOW ARE PEOPLE ABLE TO HAVE THEIR INFORMATION
SECURE -- MAKING SURE NO ONE FROM OTHER NEIGHBORHOODS
CAN SEE IT?
THERE'S VERIFICATION PROCESS YOU GO THROUGH WHEN SIGNING
YOU CAN DO THAT THROUGH A CREDIT CARD -- OR A POSTCARD
WITH A ID NUMBER -- THAT WILL PREVENT OTHERS FROM
SAYING THEY'RE YOU.
