CITY SNOW PLOWS ARE GETTING A BREAK TODAY - BUT, SPOKANE
CREWS ARE NOW RUSHING TO PREVENT URBAN FLOODING.
KXLY4'S CAITI CURREY, IS LIVE WITH AN UPDATE ON HOW
THE MELTING SNOW IS IMPACTING THE CITY.
CITY CREWS HAD TO QUICKLY CHANGE GEARS TODAY AFTER
THE SNOW COUPLE INCHES OF SNOW WE SAW MONDAY.
IN A MATTER OF DAYS THE CITY OF SPOKANE WENT FROM
A WHITE WONDERLAND.
TO A WET MESS!
EVERYTHING FROM ROADS.
AND EVEN SOME HOMES ARE DRENCHED WITH WATER.
Marlene Feist, City of Spokane :18
this is sort of typical winter weather.
After the snow comes the melt.
CITY CREWS HAVE BEEN OUT ALL MORNING TRYING TO CLEAR
DRAINS AND SUCK UP AS MUCH WATER AS POSSIBLE TO TRY
AND ELIMINATE THE FLOODING.
Marlene Feist, City of Spokane :30
Today we have wastewater crews out making sure that
snow melt is going into the drains and not sitting
on our streets.
FOR ONE SPOKANE FAMILY, THAT WASTE WATER WAS A LITTLE
TO CLOSE TO HOME.
TRY IN THEIR HOME!
Genoa Thompson, Spokane Resident:38
I woke up and saw three inches of standing water outside
my front window.
My immediate thought was, I'm going to go down in
the basment and make sure it's not in my basement.
I took a few steps into by finished basement and it
was full of water.
THE THOMPSON FAMILY'S HOME SITS AT THE BOTTOM OF A
HILL IN NORTH SPOKANE.
THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD BEEN DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT
TO PREVENT THIS DISASTER FROM HAPPENING.
Genoa Thompson, Spokane Resident:19
We come out, we clean our driveway, we make a path
to the storm drain.
BUT IT WAS THE SNOW PLOW THAT CAME AND PUSHED MORE
SNOW OVER THE DRAIN.
COVERING IT UP ENTIRELY.
RESULTING IN ROUGHLY 100 GALLONS OF WATER AND COUNTING
TO BE PUMPED OUT OF THE THOMPSON'S BASEMENT.
Now I have a full finished basement that's going to
be trashed, I'm going to have to replace the drywall,
I'm going to have to rip up all the carpet.
it's just frustrating.
and it's hard....
THE CITY IS URGING PEOPLE TO CALL IF THEY SEE ANY
AREAS OF HEAVY FLOODING.
