TONIGHT SPOKANE'S SHERIFF SAYS A PROPOSED LAW THAT WOULD MAKE IT
EASIER TO GET RID OF BAD COPS IS ABOUT TO DIE
IN COMMITTEE BEFORE THE LEGISLATURE EVEN HAS A CHANCE TO VOTE ON IT.
KXLY4'S JEFF HUMPHREY IS WORKING FOR YOU TONIGHT WITH A
LOOK AT THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY ACT AND WHY SOME
OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS MIGHT BE AFRAID TO GIVE IT THEIR SUPPORT.
SHERIFF OZZIE 32;21 this bill simply says
you shouldn't commit a crime on duty and
you shouldn't lie, it's no more than that 32;28
TODAY A DOZEN CHIEF AND SHERIFF'S JOINED OZZIE KNEZOVICH IN
CALLING ON THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO PASS SENATE BILL 6218.
THE PROPOSAL WOULD AUTHORIZE THE STATE AGENCY THAT
TRAINS OUR OFFICERS AND GIVES THEM COMMISSIONS THE
POWER TO TAKE AWAY THOSE COMMISSIONS UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES.
SHERIFF OZZIE 34;00 this comes down to
the credibility that each and everyone of
us who wears a badge has with our public.
the public trust is the one thing that if
we don't have we can't do this job anymore 34;11
THE BILL WOULD NOT AFFECT THE WAY
THAT OFFICERS ARE DISCIPLINED BY THEIR DEPARTMENTS.
BUT THEY'RE FIRED OR RESIGN BECAUSE OF DISHONESTY ISSUES THE
COMMISSION COULD DECERTIFY THEIR LICENSE TO BE A COP.-
KENDLE ALLEN STEVENS CO.SHERIFF 39;09 i would urge anyone who happens to see this today
to contact their representatives, their state senators, let them know you're in favor and that
you demand truthfulness and that police officers are not out committing crimes while on duty 39;25
THE LABOR GROUPS THAT REPRESENT OUR
PUBLIC SAFETY WORKERS DON'T LIKE THE
BILL BECAUSE OF ITS CAREER ENDING CAPABILITIES.
THE SHERIFF SAYS THE PROPOSAL WILL DIE
IN COMMITTEE ON FRIDAY WITHOUT ADDITIONAL SUPPORT.
REPORTING IN SPOKANE, JEFF HUMPHREY, KXLY FOUR.
