IN JUST THREE DAYS, CLOSE TO 600 PEOPLE
HAVE APPLIED FOR A MARIJUANA LICENSE IN WASHINGTON.
KXLY4'S IAN CULL IS WORKING FOR YOU.
IAN, WHAT DOES THIS RUSH MEAN?
BASICALLY, THE LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD WAS
EXPECTING A GREEN RUSH FOR THESE LICENSES.
STATEWIDE, SINCE MONDAY, 585 PEOPLE
HAVE APPLIED FOR A MARIJUANA LICENSE.
134 WANT TO BE PRODUCERS.
27 WANT TO BE PROCESSORS.
280 WANT TO DO BOTH -- AND
144 PEOPLE HOPE TO SELL MARIJUANA IN STORES.
BRIAN SMITH, LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD @
As we go through these applications we have to make sure they meet the requirements
of the legislation, and we've seen some who've come through on the first day that
don't meet the 1000 foot...or they were in a place that was already a store.
EACH STORE OR GROW MUST BE A ONE-THOUSAND
FEET AWAY FROM A SCHOOL, PARK, OR CHILDCARE FACILITY.
APPLICANTS WILL HAVE TO UNDERGO BACKGROUND CHECKS AS WELL.
MOST OF THE APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED ONLINE --
WHILE ONLY ONE PERSON HAS APPLIED IN SPOKANE IN PERSON.
THE APPLICATION WINDOW WILL CLOSE DECEMBER 18TH.
