Local law enforcement is concerned after two Level III sex offenders have been released and relocated to Spokane in the last three weeks.
Level III sex offender Charles Tillman lives in the 800 block of East Euclid.
He was released from the Special Commitment Center at McNeil Island last month after a judge ruled he no longer met the requirements to be labeled a sexually violent predator.
David McCuistion does not appear to have made the same progress.
McCuistion is a convicted rapist. He's also been convicted of two counts of assault that had underlying sexual components.
His 2015 Annual Review at McNeil Island states that though he is “well adjusted” to daily life at the facility, but that he “has not made any progress” toward a commitment to change his behavior.
“I've never seen an individual released into a community that has not gone through treatment,” said Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich.
Knezovich said release was opposed by the State Attorney General, the Department of Corrections and the Department of Social and Human Services.
Still, a judge ruled to release McCuistion. He now lives in the 300 block of West 2nd Ave, only a few block away from Lewis and Clark High School.
LCHS Administration was notified by Spokane Police this morning.
“This is very much a major concern for our community,” Knezovich said.
McCuistion registered in Spokane as a sex offender yesterday. He'll be monitored by the DOC for two years.
