1,000-ton Hanford reactor moved for disposal
Workers lifted a 1,000-ton reactor out of the ground Wednesday at the Hanford and started it on its way to a disposal site on the nuclear reservation.
The Tri-City Herald reports it's one the most complex cleanup projects along the Columbia River near Richland.
The reactor was used in the 1960s to test fuel containing recycled plutonium for possible use in commercial nuclear power reactors.
