Walmart regularly polls its shoppers and the latest poll could be a negative sign for retailers.  

A large portion of American consumers are worried about the "fiscal cliff" and a sizeable number of them expect the debate over it to curb their holiday spending.

Retailers rely on year-end holiday shopping for a huge percentage of their annual revenue and if shoppers pullback because of worries over increased taxes in the new year it could deeply effect stores bottom lines.
