Sheriff's office investigating sexual assault

SPOKANE, Wash - The Spokane County Sheriff's Office needs the community's help finding a man who assaulted a woman after offering her a ride.

Deputies say the woman's truck ran out of gas Saturday night near the 7-11 at Division and 2nd. She began walking towards the Spokane Valley where a friend was staying in a motel. She said a man stopped and offered her a ride; she accepted.

The woman says the man drove onto I-90, but wouldn't tell her where he was going. He grabbed her phone and threw it in the backseat and, according to deputies, "told her it was the last call she would ever make."

Deputies say the man was ordering her to remove articles of clothing. He exited the freeway at Argonne and drove her to a secluded area with an A-frame structure north of Valley Mission Park. She said she tried to get away, but the man "began calling her several derogatory names and told her to go inside the structure."

Inside the structure, she said he demanded she remove her clothes and pointed a gun at her.

"The victim stated she begged the suspect to use the condom she said but he refused and told her if she behaved, she would survive," the sheriff's office said in a news release Monday. "The victim stated she was ordered to perform oral sex before the suspect went back to his car and drove away."

The woman got dressed, jumped the fence onto I-90 and began waving for help.

The sheriff's office is looking for a white man in his 40's with shoulder-length, straight brown hair. He had a goatee and a mustache. He was driving a tan or silver 2000's Chevrolet Cavalier.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
