Miami-Dade County became the first place in Florida to allow same-sex couples to marry on Monday, half a day before a gay-marriage ban that has been ruled unconstitutional is lifted in the rest of the state. Here's a look at the path same-sex marriage has taken across the country.

Rhode Island became the 10th state to allow gay marriage on May 2, 2013, when Gov. Lincoln Chafee signed into law a bill recognizing such unions. Weddings started when the law took effect Aug. 1.
