A Missoula woman who was initially charged with negligent homicide in her husband's fatal heroin overdose in January has been given a five-year suspended prison sentence on a lesser charge.
The Missoulian reports Terry Lynn Baillargeon was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to criminal endangerment.
Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jason Marks says prosecutors couldn't prove that she directly caused Lawrence Baillargeon's death because another person acknowledged injecting him with heroin at about the same time.
Lawrence Baillargeon collapsed after his wife's injection. Terry Baillargeon said she worked to resuscitate home while someone else called for help. He was declared brain dead and removed from life support two days later.
A plea agreement called for her to seek inpatient drug treatment, but her attorney said an evaluator recommended outpatient treatment.
