Washington state is one of a handful of places where a national measles outbreak has hit record levels this year.

The last spike in Washington of the viral respiratory disease that is spread through the air was in 2008, when Grant County had 19 cases.

State health officials report 10 of the people who came down with measles in Washington had opted out of getting vaccinated for philosophical, medical or religious reasons.

Only one person has been hospitalized.
