EVERETT, Wash. -

A Snohomish County sheriff's sergeant arrested in connection with an investigation into an alleged Everett, Wash., bikini barista prostitution ring has resigned.

The Daily Herald reports that 58-year-old Darrell O'Neill submitted his resignation Tuesday. He had been placed on paid leave after his June arrest for investigation of conspiracy to promote prostitution and official misconduct. Everett police allege that he was providing a chain of bikini barista stands with information about an ongoing prostitution investigation.

The Herald says an Everett police criminal investigation continues.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton says a sheriff's office internal investigation ends with O'Neill's resignation. He served with the sheriff's office about 30 years.
